FAQ Night Train: Safety – tips for a safe night journey
Follow these simple rules and travel safely on board a night train.

Safety on the night train is essential to make your journey pleasant and stress-free. Here are some tips to help you reach your destination safely and relax.

Keep your valuables, such as your passport, tickets, money, and electronic devices, as close to you as possible. A small bum bag works well. The author stows his valuables bag by his feet while sleeping, keeping them as far away from the door as possible.

Close the door to your compartment, especially when you are asleep, or no one is in it. Many compartments have additional safety chains, and the new Nightjet coaches are even secured with electronic door locks.

Get to know your fellow travellers and watch who is in the compartment.

If you are suspicious or feel uncomfortable, alert the train crew immediately.

Make sure that your luggage—if possible in your compartment—is well stowed and not left unattended. Cable locks provide additional security.
