FAQ Night Train: Packing list for your journey
A packing list for your night train journey

Below is a list of essential items for a good night's sleep. We recommend that you keep these items on hand. A small bag or rucksack that can be easily stowed away and a bum bag for your valuables are best (see also our blog posts Safety on night trains and How much luggage can I take?). This way, you can be sure you can store these essential items in your compartment.

Travel documents

  • Tickets: preferably digital on your smartphone and a printout to be on the safe side
  • Identity card or passport
  • Visas and other documents if required for your destination

Comfort and sleep

  • Sleeping mask and earplugs
  • Your pillow if required - ahoy side sleepers
  • If you tend to be cold: a jumper or an additional light blanket, warm socks

  • Seating coach: neck pillow and blanket if necessary

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Emergency toilet paper/tissues, wet wipes and hand sanitiser

Entertainment

  • Books, e-readers or magazines
  • Smartphone or tablet: download films and music in advance. The internet connection is not always stable
  • Headphones
  • If you are travelling with others: board games

Other

  • Charging cable and power bank
  • Depending on the destination country: International travel adapter for power sockets
  • Credit or debit card, cash in the local currency if necessary
