FAQ Night Train: How do I get a good night's sleep?
How you sleep on a night train depends on various factors. Find out how you can best prepare for a restful night on the train.
Practical tips for a good night's sleep:
- The higher the comfort category, the better. In other words, there is a greater chance of a good night's sleep in a 2-bed sleeper compartment than in a 6-berth couchette coach and in a couchette coach than in a seating coach.
- In the couchette coach, you are less disturbed in the upper and middle berths.
- Take earplugs and sleeping goggles with you.
- Try to maintain your usual sleeping routine and conditions as far as possible.
- Ask your fellow travellers to be quiet.
- Take your personal pillow or an extra blanket if you get cold quickly. You can find a packing list for the night train here.
- Take sleeping clothes with you, such as a separate T-shirt.
- Go to the toilet before going to bed. This will (maybe) save you from going to the toilet at night.
