FAQ Night Train: Do I have to follow rules on board?
Find out what rules exist on board a night train. From keeping quiet and smoking bans to safety regulations.
As with all public transport, there are rules on board night trains to make travelling together pleasant and safe for everyone. Here are some of the most important rules:
Be considerate of your fellow travellers. Avoid loud conversations, loud music or other noises, especially at night. Switch off the lights if someone asks you to.
Treat the train crew decently.
Use headphones when listening to music or watching films. Make phone calls outside the compartment and switch your smartphone to silent mode.
Smoking is prohibited. During layovers, use the designated smoking areas at stations—but don't go too far away from the train.
Keep your compartment and the communal areas clean. Dispose of your rubbish in the rubbish bins provided. Leave the toilet and washbasin as you would like to find them.
Safety regulations: Follow the train crew's instructions and the notices in the compartments. Make sure that emergency exits and escape routes remain clear. Lock the compartment door.
