The Nox Suite: Germany's new night train, explained

A new operator is joining Germany's night train market. Nox Mobility launches its first connection in March 2027, running between Hamburg and Munich with a single cabin category built for solo travellers: the Nox Suite. This guide covers the route, the schedule, what the Nox Suite actually offers, the fares, and the cabin types Nox has announced for later.
Routes
Nox runs one route to start with, connecting northern and southern Germany overnight, with a stop in Bremen and Augsburg along the way:
- Hamburg Hbf to Munich Hbf (via Bremen and Augsburg) – departs 21:22, arrives 08:14
- Bremen Hbf to Augsburg Hbf – departs 22:30, arrives 07:35
- Munich Hbf to Hamburg Hbf (via Augsburg and Bremen) – departs 21:20, arrives 08:27
- Augsburg Hbf to Bremen Hbf – departs 21:51, arrives 07:20
The train runs three times a week in each direction. First departures are scheduled for 23 and 24 March 2027.
The Nox Suite
Unlike ÖBB or Trenitalia, Nox doesn't operate sleeping or couchette cars. There's just one cabin category, an open-plan seating car: the Nox Suite. It's a reclining seat with privacy wings that folds out into a roughly two-metre lounge for the night, with a reading lamp and a small table.
Nox built the Suite around solo, flexible travel – closer to a business class seat than a shared compartment. Each seat has room for two carry-on suitcases and two personal items, stored above and below the seat, plus its own light switch and window. The idea is that you can read, work, or sleep, and switch between the three without leaving your seat.
Future cabin types
Nox has announced three more room categories for later in the rollout, none of which are bookable yet:
- Single Loft – a private room for one, with a desk and seating by day and a bed on an upper level for the night. All beds are designed to be at least 2m in length.
- Double Loft – the most spacious option, with a 170cm-wide bed, two seats, and a panoramic window. Here, too, the bed is located overhead, perpendicular to the direction of travel.
- Double Vista – a room for two that converts from daytime seating to a bed at night, with full-height windows, inspired by Amtrak cabins from 50 years ago. The top bed can be lowered for night time operations with a motor. The lower bed transforms into two seats as in the Double Loft.
Nox hasn't given launch dates for these yet. We'll update this guide once they're bookable.
Tickets and prices
The Nox Suite is bookable in two fares:
- Basic – rebooking and cancellation for a fee. Prices observed until now are €65 to €179 per person, depending on the day.
- Flex – free rebooking and cancellation up to three hours before departure. €115 to €229 per person.
Both fares include the seat only – there's no separate berth or ticket to add. As with most dynamic pricing, book early if you want the lower end of the range.

Conclusion
Nox is betting on a simpler idea than most night train operators: one comfortable seat instead of a menu of sleeper and couchette categories. For a solo trip between Hamburg and Munich starting March 2027, the Nox Suite is worth a look, especially at Basic fares.
